Born in Jerusalem in 1943 Ze'ev Binyamin Begin earned his B.Sc. degree in Geology at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (1965) and joined the Israel Geological Survey. He later earned his M.Sc. (Geology, HUJ, 1969) and Ph.D. degrees (Geology, Colorado State University, 1979).
Between 1988 and 1999 Begin served as a member of Knesset in its Foreign Affairs and Defense Committee. He then returned to the Israel Geological Survey and later became its Director (2005-2008). In 2009 he was again elected as a member of Knesset and served in the inner Cabinet until 2013. In 2013-2015 he worked with the Division of Novell Technologies in Agriculture at ADAMA Ltd.
In 2015 he was again elected to the Knesset and is now a member of three committees: Women Status, Interior and Law. In addition to numerous articles that he has published during the years on various political issues, in 2000 he published a book on the ancient history of the Judean Kingdom.
Begin is married to Ruth Sho'er, a social worker taking care of disabled soldiers through gardening on behalf of the Ministry of Defense. They have six children, ages 51-36 and 18 grandchildren, ages 19-4.
