Gila Gamliel MK

Gila Gamliel was born in Gedera. She served in the IDF as head of Work Investigation Teams in the Air Force.  She has a BA in Middle Eastern History and Philosophy from Ben Gurion University of the Negev.  She also has an MA in Philosophy from the same University, as well as a BA in Law from the Ono Academic Campus, and a BA in Law from Bar Ilan University.

Among other positions, Gamliel has served as chairwoman of the National Association of Students, where she was the first and only woman ever elected to this post.  She also served three terms as chairwoman of the Ben Gurion University Students Union.

In the elections for the Likud list for the elections to the 16th Knesset she was placed at number 11.  On her election to the Knesset, she resigned from the Students’ Association.  Aged only 30, Gila Gamliel became the youngest woman in the Government of Israel, with the position of Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development.

After the 2009 elections, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed Gamliel to her current position as Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office.

In 2010 Gamliel was chosen as a member of the Young Leaders Community of the Davos World Economic Forum, and in fact, Gamliel is the first and only Israeli public representative who is a member of the Forum.

Gamliel is married and the mother of two daughters.
