Yisrael Katz was born on September 21, 1955 to Malka and Meir Katz. In his youth he studied at the Or Etzion Yeshiva High School. He served in the IDF Paratroops Corps and left with the rank of captain. He has a BA in International Relations from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and learn for an MA in Political Science from Bar Ilan University.
Katz has been a Member of the Knesset for the Likud since 1998. Over the years, he has served as a member of various Knesset committees, including: the Foreign Affairs & Security Committee, the Finance Committee, the Constitution, Law & Justice Committee, the House Committee and the Internal Affairs & Environment Committee. In the 15th Knesset he served as chairman of the Finance Committee.
Katz served as Minister of Agriculture from 2003-2006, and since April 2009 he has been the Minister of Transport, National Infrastructures & Road Safety.
Katz lives at present in Moshav Kfar Achim, is married and has two children.
